Lorraine Hobbs

I provide a safe and solid space for people to explore themselves and their difficulties in.  I have a non-judgemental, accepting and empathic nature.  I believe this assists others in feeling comfortable with me, enabling a trusting and congruent relationship to develop.

Why counselling?

Talking with an experienced professional, who is not a family member or friend, can help people understand the causes of their unhappiness, distress and pain.
Maybe you are struggling with relationships issues, anxiety is stopping you from living or you are stuck in depression.  Maybe life feels confusing, you are unable to make sense of it and of yourself.   People come for many reasons.  Being able to link feelings to patterns of behaviour which affect our relationships can enable us to make the changes we need to make and to move on with our lives.

What to expect

I am very aware how daunting and frightening it can be when people make the decision to start counselling.  I believe the key to successful therapy is the relationship between therapist and client.  I therefore consider that finding the right counsellor for you is of upmost importance.  For this reason, I do not charge for the initial meeting as this is for us to decide whether we would like to work together.
Through the client-therapist relationship people gain a greater understanding of themselves, increasing self-esteem and confidence.  This gives people the ability to have trust in themselves, make their own choices and find their own answers.

I have experience in working with a diverse range of mental health issues, working with people between the ages of 13 and 84.  I have also worked within a Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation centre.
I am particularly interested in working with young people, working as a school counsellor and also as a Family and Parent Practitioner within a secondary school.  Working one to one at this complex time can prove invaluable, and also really go a long way in preventing problems compounding later on in life.
